BLG Wins Summary Judgment for Employee in Wrongful Termination Case
A federal judge has decided that the legal rights of Bosson Legal Group client Robyn Williams have been violated, leaving only a trial on damages. This legal victory means that Ms. Williams has won even before trial begins.
Robyn Williams was a hard-working employee of Red Coats, Inc., a janitorial services company, for over five years. In 2015, Ms. Williams was diagnosed by her cardiologist with a medical condition, but continued her excellent job performance as a cleaner in commercial buildings. In 2019, however, Ms. Williams, an African-American, was reassigned to a more difficult and less-rewarding position, while co-workers who were not African-American were given preferential treatment. The last straw for Ms. Williams came when Red Coats terminated her while she was on medical leave under the District of Columbia Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and delayed any assistance in finding alternative employment for months.
That is when Ms. Williams turned to Bosson Legal Group, not only to recover her lost wages, but to prevent other employees from experiencing the same type of discrimination that had cost her the job she loved. Our attorneys laid out the evidence to the judge, and he ruled in Ms. Williams' favor. In September 2021, Bosson Legal Group was granted summary judgment in the case against Red Coats, avoiding the need for a lengthy trial that would incur further expenses in money and time. The only issue that remains for trial--at least for the FMLA claims--is the amount that the defendants will have to pay Ms. Williams.
